My personal finance journey started in 2004, I was a freshmen in college. The day I turned 18 I was approved for a credit card with a $5,000 limit. I have been on a personal finance roller coaster ever since.
Fast forward to 2018, after years of ups and downs with my finances, I finally hit rock bottom. I was a new mom, flat broke, and suffering from post partum depression. I ran through my $20,000 savings and was making about $1,000/ month from numerous side hustles.
I decided to send my son to a baby sitter and go back to work. It was one of the best decisions I made in my adult life.
In 2019 I landed my job and started Budgeting Backwards Instagram page. I started the page to keep track of my personal finance journey. At the time I had a negative checking account, 7 credit cards in collections, owed my family member money and had let my car insurance lapse. I was doing bad to say the least, but I knew hard times wouldn’t last.
I did a lot of research, read a lot of blogs, and made a personal finance plan that fit my lifestyle and goals.
I put my plan into action, and saw some results, but then the Covid-19 pandemic hit, so I shifted my focus to immediate survival.
Now we are in 2021 and I am picking up where I left off on my personal finance journey.
I started Budgeting Backwards The Blog to share everything I learn along the way.
Budgeting Backward is a platform for women who are tired of living paycheck to paycheck and want to start or restart their personal finance journey.
